Engineering Manager - High Voltage Battery Pack Systems Engineer

Job Summary: The Electric Vehicle High Voltage Pack Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting the Design Verification, physical testing and certification of traction battery pack systems for hybrid and electric vehicles.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Support the development of EV electrical architecture, high voltage system and EV sub-systems of electrified commercial and passenger vehicles
  • Collaborate with internal departments to develop component roadmaps and to evaluate potential suppliers and “Made in house” strategies for future programs
  • Lead the effort to identify externally sourced components for electrified commercial vehicles such as electric motors, traction inverters, electric axles, DCDC converters, onboard chargers, electric compressors, electric pumps and other high voltage components used in the electric vehicle domain
  • Collaborate on automation of pack and Battery Management Systems (BMS) functional test setup with the battery design engineering team
  • Build and manage long term durability tests on the battery pack mechanical structure
  • Create and implement Design Verification Methods, test cases and validation criteria to test coverage of component requirements of EV powertrain system
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal departments to identify gaps and risks in the design and validation of the components and work with suppliers to close gaps and achieve compliance
  • Work on the test process to verify functions on bench and in vehicle, and trouble-shoot the vehicle failure related to the HV battery
  • Develop, maintain, and execute high and low voltage battery system and component test procedures and tests
  • Designs and/or utilizes tools for data processing and calibration development
  • HV battery system integration and trouble shooting
  • Application of electrical engineering principles to identify issues & develop solutions relating to Battery Energy Storage projects
  • Analyzes data from warranty claims to support future designs.
  • Develop toolchains and methods to automate testing and perform data analysis to improve efficiency

Basic Qualifications

Education & Experience:

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or related fields of study

·         5+ years of experience working on electrification/hybridization technologies including low/high voltage power systems and charging components.

·         Deep knowledge in Electric Vehicle charging standards and the validation/certification processes

·         Extensive knowledge of technology in electrical power supply grids and charging stations for electric vehicles

·         Battery laboratory test experience required.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

·         An understanding of vehicle powertrain, power supply and vehicle electrical system operation with an emphasis on High and Low Voltage/Hybrid Electric and Battery Electric Vehicles

·         A strong understanding of cell designs, HV battery chemistry, basics of electrical engineering and HV battery safety and operating procedures.

·         A working knowledge of programming and calibration of hybrid/EV battery testers, Eg: NEWARE, MAACOR, BIOLOGIC etc..

·         Strong teamwork, analytical, oral and written skills

·         Ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks, and adjust to changing requirements

·         High energy, self-starter with the ability and desire to take responsibility and deliver results with minimal supervision

·         Ability to work within diverse environments and the ability to effectively communicate key issues and recommendations to senior management

·         High integrity with a good attitude

·         Office and shop environment (fabrication equipment, indoors)
